'The second Alice book has the same rich vein of nonsense but it is also sombre and wistful and it reflects an author who had come to terms with unhappiness.' Throughout the book, the characters are more thoughtful and a little sadder. Maturity, and mature concerns, temper Carroll's inspiration."

I'm a fan of chess; always enjoyed the game. Seeing a chess game as an adventure/fantasy was a lot of fun for me. Never read "Lookingglass" as a child, so reading this annotated version was a big help. The notations unpacked words and cultural information that I didn't know, and were down-right funny.
