The story of disgraced cyclist Lance Armstrong isn’t just about the greatest doping conspiracy in sports history—it's about the nature of corruption, whether in athletics, business, politics or society at large.

Blending memoir that recounts his own family’s struggles with cancer and reportage from Europe's elite racing circuit (including access to riders such as Carlos Sastre and Ryder Hesjedel), journalist Richard Poplak draws out the parallels between the elaborate, cult-like regime constructed around Armstrong and the sort of corruption he's witnessed first-hand in the developing world.

This book is not a definitive account of the Lance Armstrong era. It does not divulge any new information on his many years as a doper and cyclist. Rather, Braking Bad is an incisive, eloquent, and thought-provoking meditation on the most human of foibles, corruption, and how it preys so auspiciously on the most human of virtues, idealism and hope.

Braking Bad Chasing Lance Armstrong and the Cancer of Corruption eBook Richard Poplak Reviews

This was a great read, especially after reading Tyler Hamilton's book and David Millar's book about doping in cycling. It sort of points out the natural allure for professional athletes to seek out anything that gives them an advantage.
It seems to me to be saddle life in the 21st century win at all cost. I don't think it can be changed it is evolution at work.
I took it out through my library as an e-book, and it's not what I thought it would be. There was no description of the book available, so I thought it was going to be entirely about the Lance Armstrong doping scandal. It's much more wide ranging than that, and I would have known that if I could have read the description of the book on . I struggled with what rating to give it, because it's not like it's poorly written or anything, but there's a lot about Sudan, cancer, things I didn't expect. So, I think a 3 star rating is appropriate.
This writer actually hammered Eddie Merckx, a very decent man who displays it when idiots interview him. That is sad.
Refreshing insight on the nature of corruption and how it has manifested itself in 21st Century society. The cycling aspect of it also makes for interesting reading.
Poplak's extended meditation on the "institutional" corruption of "Armstrong, Inc." both in the broader context of corruption in Africa and his personal love of cycling is fascinating and thought provoking.
This is more about personal stories and cavil actions about the author's life than Lance's punishment impact on cycling as a sport.
